Coming soon: Private Label
Fashion and retail, from the inside.
Welcome to Private Label.
Private Label is a retail term referring to an in-house brand. Exclusive, not available everywhere else, designed by the insiders who know the business and made just for you. That’s what you will find here. The inside perspective.
This is the newsletter for everyone who loves to discuss retail, consumerism, fashion, beauty, shopping, and more. Whether you work in a buying office or love window shopping. If you want to dig into the trends, why certain products take off, and who is leading your favorite brands, this is the place.
Whenever I do store visits I get in the zone. For me, in the zone means I’m noticing who is shopping in the store, scanning the merchandise on the racks, what are the sales associates doing and checking out the new deliveries. If I’m with someone they know I’ll wander off and find them again when I’ve done my research.
But I’m not the only person obsessed with retail (or some people might say shopping.) When a retailer is acquired, the stock drops, a CEO steps down, a new Creative Director is hired, a brand closes, it’s not just news. It is also personal because these are the connections we have. When something happens in retail we all have opinions because we have a relationship with it.
I always give the analogy of retail/shopping and sports. If you love a sport like basketball, football, baseball, tennis etc. you are reading the sports section, listening to sports podcasts, and absorbing all the content. Why can’t retail be the same?
Private Label has a free and paid tier. Paid subscribers get the full deep dives, all the extra posts since I have a lot to talk about. Two paywalled posts every week. The weekend post is free for everyone.
Paid is $8 a month or $80 a year. And if you want to become a founding member, $250 gets you a subscription plus a 30-minute retail consulting call with me. Ask me anything.
If this sounds like your thing, subscribe to get full access to the newsletter. Never miss an update.
Made just for you — always. See you Tuesday, Sarah Shapiro
