Hi — By now you’ve probably seen the news that Vogue chose a new Met Gala theme after the Galliano controversy. Now it will be “extraORDINARY” with a focus on jeans and t-shirts. A palete cleanser. And by not going with another designer retrospective no one will be comparing it to Galliano and what would have been. Feels like Vogue and The Met are ready for us to move on. I expect a lot of denim and t-shirt brands to have marketing campaigns that work into the Met Gala in the spring leading up to the first Monday in May. Maybe a few embellished jeans and evening-ready t-shirts. (My favorite luxe t-shirt and the jeans I wore 3x this week*. I don’t think I’d wear them to the Met Gala, though.)
And are we loving the new L’Etiquette English edition?
In this send: How Savette’s Amy Zurek made a handbag you can spot across the room without a logo and how she honed her skills. Plus: the Met Gala’s jeans-and-t-shirt reset, two Bay Area-based brands with a 20 percent off sale, faux fur at Evereve, Princess Olympia’s night out with Moda Operandi, the Hanukkah countdown has begun, Jo Gordon scarves from my past, a leather jacket with enough pockets to replace your handbag, Birkenstock’s cozy clogs, and the coat trend with at least seven names.

Savette’s IYKYK Logo
A couple of years ago I became transfixed by Savette’s Symmetry clutches. The bags are beautiful, but what hooked me was the merchandising. It’s rare for a newer accessories brand to be recognizable with no logo on it. With Savette, the clasp and the shape give it away if you know what to look for. IYKYK. I’ve continued to watch the brand and while I first fell in love with the clutches it felt like this year the brand had an explosion of building out so many more shapes for daytime use. Earlier this week I spoke to founder and creative director Amy Zurek about Savette.
